“I love to make people look and feel a million dollars”.
Where women come for great fitting clothes
Shadze of Lace was established in 1985 and as they have grown, changed and matured, so has their range of women’s clothing.
Over the years their client list expanded through word of mouth and the requests received for custom clothing and bespoke tailoring are now as varied as the clients.
Shadze of Lace is a highly qualified, professional, experienced and people friendly team of dressmakers Auckland and Northland women come to for great fitting clothes.
Tracey Paton has had decades of experience in dressmaking and clothes design and is passionate about her business and her loyal clients.
Bringing your ideas to life
Well-known for versatility, use of beautiful fabrics, print textures, unique designs and inspired use of colour, Shadze of Lace specialises in clothing for the more mature woman in sizes 10-22. Their clothes range from casual clothing right through to special occasion dresses and outfits for the mother of the bride or groom.
As a rag trade professional, Tracey designs her own patterns, samples and sews. Through her dressmaking and pattern making service, garments are tailor made to achieve the perfect fit, regardless of clients’ shape or size. Got an outfit you want made? Just bring along your ideas or designs and Tracey will create it for you.
Since 1985 Shadze of Lace has had many directions in style. Trained as a machinist and having studied pattern making and garment construction at ATI (Auckland Technical Institute), Tracey Paton began by selling ethnic and tie-dyed women’s clothes at Auckland’s Cook Street Market. She then moved on to Victoria Park Market, an incubator for her and the many other designers and dressmakers Auckland has inspired. She also began wholesaling throughout New Zealand.
Cutting a fine figure
In 1990 Tracey and her partner moved the business to Leigh, North Auckland, and continued selling throughout New Zealand in shops from Invercargill to Auckland and up to Kaitaia.
When it became time for a change of direction, they opened Shadze of Lace Boutique in Warkworth, North Auckland, so the range could grow and they could maintain their personal approach to service. They also continued to supply a women’s clothes shop in Nelson, a relationship they have maintained for the past 15 years, and exported a medieval renaissance range to the USA.

Flattering fits for all women
As Shadze of Lace evolved they focused on clothing for the more mature women; women in the 50+ age group and from sizes 10-22. As a designer with a keen eye and many years’ experience creating made to measure clothing that complemented women, Tracey understands body shapes very well and makes flattering fits for all women.
The made to measure side of the business also grew as customers really enjoyed her genuine bespoke tailoring service rather than continually shopping off-the-rack. Tracey works with women of all shapes and sizes who adore her clothing.
If you’re looking for clothes that focus on comfort, then look no further. Shadze of Lace specialises in the use of stretch fabrics, polyspandex, for great drape, printed knits, florals and fine laces. They make fabulous jackets, tops, dresses, outfits and tunics.
Nothing quite expresses who you are like tailor made clothing. Come and see Tracey Paton at her new design room and shop in Elizabeth St Warkworth, North Auckland, and she will create a unique, gorgeous outfit just for you.
