Shadze of Lace was established in 1985 and as they have grown, changed and matured, so has their range of women’s clothing.
Over the years their client list expanded through word of mouth and the requests received for custom clothing and bespoke tailoring are now as varied as the clients.
Shadze of Lace is a highly qualified, professional, experienced and people friendly team of dressmakers Auckland and Northland women come to for great fitting clothes.
Tracey Paton has had decades of experience in dressmaking and clothes design and is passionate about her business and her loyal clients.
Bringing your ideas to life
Well-known for versatility, use of beautiful fabrics, textured prints, original designs and her use of lots of colour, Shadze of Lace specialty is designing clothing for the more mature woman in sizes 10-22. Tracey’s range offers a great selection of styles from casual clothing through to her special occasion range for the mother of the groom or Bride
As a rag trade professional, Tracey designs and drafts her own patterns, samples and sews. Through her dressmaking and pattern making service, garments are tailor made to achieve the perfect fit, regardless of clients’ shape or size. Got an outfit you want made? Just bring along your ideas or designs and Tracey will create it for you.
Shadze of Lace has had many directions in style since being established in 1985. Trained as a machinist and having studied pattern making and garment construction at ATI (Auckland Technical Institute), Tracey Paton started by selling tie- dye ethnic women’s clothing at Auckland’s Iconic Cook Street Market. Then moving on to Victoria Park Market, an incubator for herself and the many other dressmakers and designers Auckland has inspired. She also began wholesaling to boutiques throughout New Zealand.
Cutting a fine figure
Tracey and her partner moved the business to Leigh , North of Auckland in 1990, and continued selling throughout New Zealand in shops from Kaitaia to Auckland and down south to Invercargill.
When it became time for a change of direction, She opened her Shadze of Lace Boutique North of Auckland in Warkworth, so the range could grow and they could maintain their personal approach to service. They also continues to supply a women’s clothing shop in Nelson, a relationship they have maintained for over 15 years, and exporting a medieval renaissance range to the USA.

Flattering fits for all women
As Shadze of Lace evolved they focused on clothing for the more mature women; women in the 50+ age group and from sizes 10-22. As a designer with a keen eye and many years’ experience creating made to measure clothing that complemented women, Tracey understands body shapes very well and makes flattering fits for all women.
The made to measure side of the business also grew as customers really enjoyed her genuine bespoke tailoring service rather than continually shopping off-the-rack. Tracey works with women of all shapes and sizes who adore her clothing.
